For those who know Dr. Shawn Reese, it’s no surprise that he now owns and operates a periodontist practice in Cedar Falls, Iowa. That’s because he’s always wanted to be a dentist. From a young age, Dr. Reese remembers telling everyone, including his mom, that he wanted to be a dentist and he has not veered from that career path since. He opened his practice in Cedar Falls in 1999 and has been making a difference in patient’s lives ever since.

We caught up with Dr. Reese to learn more about his periodontist practice and his vision for the future.

Tell us more about what a periodontist does.

A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease, and in the placement of dental implants. Periodontists are also experts in the treatment of oral inflammation.

What I love most about what I do is treating patients. I love to relate to patients. And I love that periodontics is as much as an art as it is a science.

How did you end up opening a practice in Cedar Falls?

I started my practice in 1999 after having graduated from the University of Iowa. I purchased my practice from an adjunct professor who was looking to retire.

I like the Cedar Falls area because there is growth here. With the business we have here and with the colleges we have presently, I think it’s always changing and always growing for the better.

What makes your practice different?

I like to stay up to date on the latest technology available and aid in providing the best care that I can for my patients.

How did you end up banking with MidWestOne?

Initially the reason was proximity. We were essentially neighbors and I thought it would be easy to have my banking done there. But as we’ve grown and as we’ve worked with the bank it’s progressed to be a very good relationship between the both of us.

What do you like about banking with MidWestOne?

People at the bank know who I am when I come in and know my family when they come in, so it makes it refreshing.

What we found from the previous accounts we had at another bank was that I was paying for services I wasn’t receiving. That’s something I don’t have to worry about with MidWestOne. I get what I’m supposed to get and I don’t have to worry about it.

MidWestOne would be a good bank to start with if you’re starting your own business in the sense that they help you from the beginning to end. They helped me a great deal when I was setting up accounts, receivables and other things of that sort. Their assistance allowed me more time to focus on my business and customer care.
