Credit Card Phishing Emails

July 2012 - Several fraudulent emails have circulated lately claiming to be from reputable credit card companies such as Discover, Citi or Bank of America. Often these emails state that your statement is available online, has a balance in excess of $10,000, and provide the actual first four digits of your credit card number. Don't be fooled. The first four digits of many credit card types are often the same, depending upon the card carrier. So, it is not uncommon that phishers can randomly match the first four digits of your card number.

Report phishing emails to the US Computer Emergency Readiness Team at the Department of Homeland Security by forwarding it to phishing-report@us-cert.gov.
